Sweet Little Red Peppers

I started buying these cute little red peppers at the store. I like to buy organic peppers because they’re one of the most heavily treated vegetables otherwise. Plus, they taste better! I have always loved cutting into a pepper, the way the seeds sit in there, and contrast between the vibrant exterior and nude interior. So smooth and simple on the outside and yet so complicated inside. Fun to paint!

Daily Painting: Humble Bumble Bee

SOLD

I decided I’m going to paint a bee. I like bees, I have to if I’m going to make paint out of beeswax. I love how this bee is almost looking at his own shadow. Granted, I don’t love a bee when it’s buzzing around my head, but they sure are cute in a picture!

Daily Painting: Blueberries

My daughter and I love blueberries, not so much my Hubby, but that’s his problem. I wanted to try painting cloth today. It was surprisingly easy to do with the wax. I find I am far better with organically shaped objects than objects with a hard edge. I will continue to push myself, though. The way wax can be both opaque and transparent is a God-send. Anyone used to oils would love this medium!

Daily Painting: Line of Figs

SOLD

Figs are funny little fruits. Some people love them, some hate, and some have no idea what they are. I believe one friend of mine thought they were mini eggplants… I got a whole basket of these little guys at the store the other day. I cut them up, and coupled them with a slice of goat cheese and wrapped them in prosciutto. Yummy. I’ve had them with blue cheese before, also, but wasn’t a big fan of the blue I’d picked. Anyway… a good bottle of wine was the perfect thing to wash them down.

I also did 2 paintings, one big and one small so be sure to scroll all the way down to view both!

Daily Painting: Daylight Pear

SOLD

My daughter and husband really like pears. I like a pear in a glass of lemonade (likely with vodka) on a hot day, or cold… anytime, really. Pears are one of those fruits you see a lot in still life’s, but it’s also a fruit people seem enamored with. I find the array of colors to be what draws me to them. They go well with cheese, too. What’s a fruit and cheese place without pears? My favorite little bar has a fruit and cheese plate with dried pears. Love it! So anyway, here is my daylight pear!

Yellow Boat

I’ve been wanting to paint a boat for a while. Being a part of the Justin Timberlake SNL “I’m in a boat” skit generation, that jingle is what I thought of most of the time, but the end result was a lot less comical and a lot more serene. The wax was great when it came to the water. The texture is deep.
